Reverend John Wayne Chambers, Sr

Reverend John Wayne Chambers, Sr., age 74 of Ellen Court in Toccoa passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Pruitt Health Toccoa.

A son of the late J.C. and Edna Crook Chambers, he was born September 22, 1943 in Anderson, South Carolina, having lived most of his life in Toccoa. He was a retired brick mason by trade. He was an ordained Church of God Minister and evangelized in many places. He was a member of Bowersville Church of God. He was an accomplished musician in many musical instruments. He enjoyed working for the Lord and had close family ties. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Chambers, son, Mathew Chambers and by a brother, Winfred Chambers.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Katie Griffin Chambers; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Chris Oliver of Walhalla, South Carolina; four sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Rhonda Chambers of Clarkesville, Georgia, Michael and Marsha Chambers and Shannon and Christy Chambers both of Toccoa and Josh and Chrisie Chambers of Seneca, South Carolina; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen Atkinson of Toccoa, June and Bobby Brisco of Royston, Peggy and Gettys Allen of Lavonia, Bonnie and Bobby Joe Allen of Canon, JoAnn Hill and Brenda and Ronnie Pickens of Royston.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 1, 2 O’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Gettys Allen and The Reverend Randall Starrett officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Levi Oliver, Gage Chambers, Drew Wilson, Matt Chambers, John Chambers, Stoney Norris, Jeff Stephens and Josh Horton.

The family will be at the home of Shannon and Christy Chambers, 5588 Rock Creek Road, Toccoa and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday from noon until the service time.

Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Royston, Georgia with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for The Reverend John Wayne Chambers, Sr.
