Mr. A. Dan Sassaman, age 86 of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center located in Gainesville, Ga.
Mr. Sassaman was born in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Albert Leon and Lucy Carr Sassaman. He moved to Georgia in his twenties where he lived for most of his life. After retirement he and his wife moved to Clarkesville. Mr. Sassaman is a veteran of the United States Air Force having honorably served in the Korean War. Family describes him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a loyal friend. Mr. Sassaman lived by the fruits of the spirit. Galatians 5:22 reads, “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.” Friends and family look to this verse to describe him and all say that he lived by and possessed all of these wonderful attributes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey K. Davis and by a sister, Joyce Ochoa.
Survivors include his wife of the home, Joanne C. Sassaman; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Renee Sassaman of Alpharetta, Ga., two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Don Dodelin and Suzanne and Stephen Carswell all of Woodstock, Georgia; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Sassaman of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to The Jeffrey K. Davis Memorial Fund, Young Harris College, 1 College Street, Young Harris, Ga. 30582 in memory of Mr. Dan Sassaman.
