William Hayward "Buck" Cooper, 89 of Lawrenceville passed away Saturday November 25, 2017 at the Gwinnett Medical Center.
Born in Gainesville, Ga. September 8, 1928, Mr. Cooper had lived in Gwinnett County for a number of years. He was the son of the late William Corbett and Doyla Inez Cantrell Cooper. He was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School Class of 1946, and also attended the University of Georgia. Mr. Cooper served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation and after retirement he owned and operated with his wife, Buck Cooper, Inc. Mr. Cooper was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Wilda Mealor Cooper, Lawrenceville; sisters, Mozelle Glover, Gainesville; Wynelle Ransom, Gainesville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rita Mealor LeJeune and Nick LeJeune, Loganville. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Cooper is preceded in death by his parents and a son, William Richard "Rick" Cooper, brother and sister-in-law, James L. and Lou Cooper, brothers-in-law, Bobby Glover, Dr. James Ransom.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday November 29, 2017 in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Childress, Dr. Lamar Holly and Rev. Johnny Knight will officiate. Interment will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
