Mrs. Shelby Claudette VanMeter, age 80, of Dahlonega, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017.
Mrs. VanMeter was born on November 30, 1936 to the late Claude C. Scott and Mary Ema Fergerson Scott. She lived most of her life in Lumpkin County. Mrs. VanMeter was also preceded in death by her husband James Edward VanMeter, Sr. She was the Librarian for Martin Marietta now Lockheed. Known as the “Rock” of her family, Mrs. VanMeter was the most loving mom and was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. She loved to cook and travel the state of Georgia looking for good Bluegrass and Gospel music. Mrs. VanMeter was a member of Dahlonega Church of God at Mercy Hill.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law James Jr. and Kathy VanMeter, Dahlonega; daughter and son-in-law Donna and Ron Hall, Macon; brothers and sisters-in-law Charles and Susie Scott, Loganville; William Scott, Dahlonega; Donald and Patricia Scott, Loganville; half-brother and sister-in-law Johnny and Cindy Scott, Social Circle; granddaughters Heather Wheeler and Tabitha Cooper, Dahlonega, grandson Dustin VanMeter, Dahlonega; great grandchildren Logan Wheeler, Nolan Wheeler, Ethan Cooper, Nathan Cooper, and Nikki VanMeter, all of Dahlonega; other relatives including Mary Scott, Blairsville; and several nieces and nephews.
