Mrs. Laurie Leigh Shelnut, age 61, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2017.
Laurie was born in Hall County to the late Kenneth and Vivian Davenport Chambers. She was a lifetime resident of White County and a member of Cleveland United Methodist Church. Laurie loved animals, flowers, and all of nature. She graduated from White County High School in 1974, and received her degree in criminal justice from Brenau College. She was employed by the Hall County Sheriff’s Department for a time, before becoming a full-time homemaker and mother.
Survivors include husband, Avery Shelnut, Cleveland; daughter, Maureen Shelnut, Cleveland; daughter and her fiancé, Sydney Shelnut and Austin Davis, Cleveland; in-laws, Herman and Lola Shelnut, Cleveland; sister and brother in law, Sydney and Mitchell Vandiver, Sautee; brother and sister in law, Matt and Jon Chambers, Homer; sister in law and brother in law, Ava and Andy Miller, Gainesville; nieces, Kate Chambers, Kendle Chambers, Betsy Chambers, Claire Smith and Mary Grace Smith.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 PM Saturday, November 25, 2017 from The Chapel at Barrett Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Yonah View Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Friday, November 24, 2017 from the funeral home.
