Matthew Corey Shockley

Obituary Date: Thursday, November 2, 2017

Matthew Corey “Matt” Shockley, age 34 of Lula, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017.

Born in Hall County on April 11, 1983, he was a son of Phillip and Angela Shockley of Lula.  Mr. Shockley was a 2001 graduate of East Hall High School and was employed with ACH Foam.  He was a member of First Congregational Church of Gainesville and enjoyed camping and fishing in his spare time.  He was very beloved by his family, friends and many in the community.  He welcomed folks to many tent revivals held at his home, so that they might come to know the Lord Jesus as their Savior.  Matt loved the Lord and his family with all of his heart.  He was always there for anyone in need of a helping hand, to do whatever he could to lighten someone’s load.  He made friends easily, and to know him was to love him.  He spoiled his two nieces, Madilynn and Devyn, every chance he got.  He called them his princesses and they both loved their “Unc” dearly.  Matt, we know how happy you are to see your Savior and to be reunited with your loved ones that have gone on before, but our time with you here on this earth was much too brief.  You are truly, deeply loved now and forever, and will be missed terribly. Until we see you again.

He was preceded in death by grandmothers, Ruby Shockley and Ethel Harris.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by sister and brother-in-law, Jessi and Darin Kimbrell of Alto; brother and sister-in-law, Jonathan “Gump” and Cory Shockley of Lula; nieces, Madilynn Shockley of Lula and Devyn Kimbrell of Alto; grandfathers, Homer Shockley and Rev. Cotton Harris both of Lula; numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services are 3 pm on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lula with Rev. Keith Phagan officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Scotty Poole officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.

Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to First Congregational Church of Gainesville Youth, P.O. Box 620, Gainesville, Georgia 30503, or to Gideon’s International, Habersham, South Camp, P.O. Box 195, Baldwin, Georgia 30511.
