Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Reverend Robert Barr Lewis, age 72 of Commerce, Georgia (Dry Pond Community) who entered into heaven Tuesday, October 31, 2017. Reverend Lewis was born in Elmira, New York, a son of the late Robert Leon Lewis and the late Mina Ellen Barr Lewis, and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. After receiving his Master of Divinity Degree from Drew University, Reverend Lewis served God for forty years as a United Methodist Minister at Kanona / Wheeler UMC, Westside UMC, Waterloo UMC, Redwine UMC, and Holly Springs UMC.
Reverend Lewis is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Babcock Lewis of Dry Pond, two sons, Kenneth Richard Lewis of Port Jervis, NY, and Dale Robert Lewis and his wife, Dr. Julie Karen Gammack of St. Louis, MO. Daughter, April Jean Lewis Loggins and her husband Robert Hope Loggins of Dry Pond. Brother, James Edward Lewis and his wife Mary Lou of The Villages, Florida. Four grandchildren, Troy Alexander Loggins, Julia Hope Loggins, Mitchell Parker Lewis, and Marshall Andrew Lewis also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, November 3, 2017 from the Holly Springs United Methodist Church, with Pastor David Cornelius and Pastor Todd Dudich officiating with burial to follow in the Church cemetery. Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Michael Lewis, Stephen Cornelius, John Whaley, Dennis Marlow, Ricky Sanders, and Randy Sellers. J.B. Benson is honored to serve as a honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday, November 2, 2017.
