Mr. Dale Leroy Campbell Sr., age 81, of Cumming, passed away, Tuesday, October 24, 2017.
Mr. Campbell was born in Venice, IL on March 25, 1936 to the late Homer and Fern Stennett Campbell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Ann Milliam Campbell; brother Thomas Campbell; and daughter Brenda Sobberi. Mr. Campbell served his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War. During his honorable service, Mr. Campbell became a prisoner of war. He found a way to escape but had to stay behind enemy lines for 2 weeks until he was courageously rescued. He was a member of Light House Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son and daughter in law Dale Jr. and Phyllis Campbell, Granite City, IL; daughters and sons in law Terrie and Chuck Woodley, Crossville, TN; Sherrie and Bill Dalton, Madison, IL; Fern and James West, Cumming; son in law Joe Sobberi, Cumming; sister Joyce Walker, Madison, IL; sister and brother in law Carol and Carl Arguello, California; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Lighthouse Baptist Church. Dr. Charles Blackstock will officiate. Mr. Campbell’s wishes were to be cremated and he will be taken back to his family farm in Shipman, IL where his cremains will be scattered on the land he called home.
