Miriam Mixon, age 79, passed away in her home October 16 after a recently diagnosed illness. Known to her friends as Mimi, she was a long time Dahlonega resident. She had careers in both publishing and real estate
She was well known to her neighbors and church friends for her many artistic talents. Her quilts are legendary. She enjoyed many forms of fabric art as well as painting in various media. She also enjoyed teaching quilting to friends and family. She was a lover of animals and provided a home for many throughout the years.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, on August 12, 1938, she grew up in Georgia and remained a Georgia resident for most of her life from the age of five. As a child she lived in the Virginia Highlands area and attended Grady High School. She attended the University of Alabama and was always a Crimson Tide fan.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Perry Mixon of Dahlonega and George Earl Mixon and his wife, Lauren, of Oakwoodi, as well as three grandchildren: Alexander, Patrick, and Jonathan; a brother, Charles Tutt, and his family of Dunwoody, GA; and a cousin, Charlotte Lanier, of Dahlonega.
In honor of her wishes, an intimate memorial service for family and close friends was held on Saturday, October 21st, at her home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to:
