Rodger John Harpster, 78 years old, died on October 23, 2017 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Rodger was born on April 6, 1939 in Johnstown, PA. He is survived by Eleanor, his loving wife of 58 years, and his 3 precious daughters and their spouses, Therese and Raymond Swanhart of Alpharetta, GA , Linda and Charles Trocina of Cumming, GA, and Lori and Gregory Weimer of Venetia, PA. He also is survived by his special grandchildren who he was proud of and loved very much, Chelsea Swanhart Skubis and husband, Christopher, of Atlanta, Nicole and Alyssa Trocina of Cumming, Gregory Weimer and wife, Nicolet, of Bethel Park, and Elizabeth, Madison and Morgan Weimer of Venetia, and his Great-granddaughter, Adeline Weimer, of Bethel Park. Rodger is also survived by his sister, JoAnn Brewer, of Johnstown, as well as his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Christina, and Father, Edgar Harpster, and brother Howard “Mike” Harpster of Johnstown. Rodger was a graduate of Greater Johnstown High School, Class of 1957, and the Pittsburgh Automation Institute. He was a member of The Pennsylvania Army National Guard 628th Tank Battalion. He retired as a Supervisor of Bethlehem Steel Corporation Information Services of 32 years and was a Sales Associate with Century 21 Zamias Real Estate from 1993-1996. Rodger moved to Johns Creek, GA in 1996. Rodger loved music and was part of a trio in his high school years and later the men’s church choir. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, walking and his Men’s Coffee Club. He was a volunteer at North Fulton Hospital Transportation Department for 11 years, and a volunteer at Emory Johns Creek Hospital Emergency Waiting Room for 5 years. Rodger was a quiet man with a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. He had battled Multiple Myeloma since 2012 and he participated in numerous Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation 5K charity events. Viewing will be held on Friday, October 27 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Avenue, Cumming, GA. A Mass will be held at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Johns Creek, Georgia on Saturday, October 28 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception at the church. Burial services will be in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA.
