Charles William Good was born at Hall Station, Pennsylvania, on July 28, 1928, to his parents, Ellsmer and Angline Good. Charles spent many of his early formative years before attending school with his grandmother Rhoda Schultz and thirteen cousins on the family farm.
Charles attended a two-room school house learning the basics. Later, he attended Montoursville Middle School and High School where he was greatly involved in sports activities such as football. After graduation from high school, he attended Toccoa Falls College. While attending TFC, he worked for the Letourneau Company in the electrical department for a few years.
On college graduation day, June 5, 1950, in the afternoon Charles Good married Ruth Woerner. After the honeymoon period, they traveled to Port Arthur, Texas, where they began their Christian ministry. Two lovely baby girls were born to them during that period of time. Charlene and Cheryl were a great delight to the parents and the congregation.
Charles served pastorally in Texas and Indiana. While being a pastor, he attended and graduated from Taylor University in 1955. Then, Charles and his wife Ruth went to Costa Rica to study Spanish for a year. The following year, Charles and Ruth went to Peru, South America, where they served the Lord for ten years. On August 11, 1959, Caleb was born into the Good family.
In 1966, Charles and Ruth came to work at Toccoa Falls College where they worked for over thirty years. During this time Charles attended and graduated from The University of Georgia in the area of counseling. Later, he received a certificate in Marriage and Family therapy from UGA, as well as his doctorate in 1974, from Highland University. From 1977 to 1987, he was the Behavior Specialist at Stephens County Training Center.
In 1982, Charles opened Toccoa Counseling Center which has been helpful to many families in the area and nearby states. He has supervised over ten individuals in the field of counseling which enabled them to be licensed as professional counselors in the State of Georgia.
He along with other Professional Counselors founded the organization of Professional Counselors in the State of Georgia. He served on the Board of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia for over 10 years, and was elected president for the year of 1998.
On October 22, 2017, Charles Good went to be with the Lord. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Good and three children — Charlene Dooley of Tampa, FL.; Cheryl Spotts of Atlanta, GA.; and Caleb Good of Chicago. Il.; and eight grandchildren - Benjamin Aaron of Los Angeles, CA.; Jacqueline Graham of Brandon, FL; Tammy Robinson of Tampa, FL; Lauren Otto of Philadelphia, PA.; Kristen Spotts of Macon, GA.; Joshua Good and Jeremy Good both of Las Vegas, NV.; and Brittany Clark of Lexington, KY.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 26, 2017, 11 O’clock a.m. at the First Alliance Church with The Reverend Scott Borderud officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Joshua Good, Jeremy Good, Benjamin Aaron, Sid Lawson, Lenell Dooley and Edward Coon.
The family will receive friends at the First Alliance Church on Thursday, October 26, 10 a.m. until the service time.
Interment will follow in the Toccoa City Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Dr. Charles William Good.
