Doris T. Ramsaur

Obituary Date: Sunday, October 22, 2017

Doris T. Ramsaur, 88, passed away under the care of Hospice on October 22, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Dahlonega, GA.

Born in Atlanta, GA on July 14, 1929 to the late William A. and Jennie Maude Turner she was a graduate of Girl’s High School and Crawford Long Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She wed the late 1stSgt Stephen D. Ramsaur in 1952 and spent many years as a proud Marine Corp. wife, pursuing her nursing career and raising their family in Georgia, Alabama, Florida and North Carolina while Steve served multiple tours of duty overseas. After leaving military life they settled first in College Park, GA then in Sharpsburg, GA.

Doris retired from nursing while working at Christian City in Union City, GA in the late 1980s. Never one to sit still, it was not long before she found something new to do and she served as parish secretary at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Peachtree City, GA for a number of years.  She was a loyal patron of the Fox Theatre and enjoyed annual subscriptions to much-loved touring Broadway musicals.  She was a dedicated bird watcher and spent countless hours doing intricate cross stitch. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, was an avid reader and perhaps enjoyed nothing more than a “road trip” to explore new places.

After Steve passed, Doris moved to Buffalo, NY to live with her eldest daughter. After many years of exploring NY and New England she had enjoyed her fill of white Christmases and heard the South calling her home. She moved to Dahlonega to live in the N. Georgia mountains with her daughter, Lynda, and her family. Sadly, her health declined rapidly following a hip fracture earlier this year.

She is survived by her son, Stephen “Skip” D. Ramsaur, Jr. (Beverly) of Allons, TN, , her daughter Karen Keeley (Jim) of Buffalo, NY, her daughter Lynda Hart (Steve) of Dahlonega, GA, 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Her brother, William A. Turner, Jr. predeceased her.
