Janice Kay Gray

Mrs. Janice Kay Gray, age 80, of Dahlonega, passed away peacefully in her home on October 18, 2017.

Janice was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 16, 1936 to the late Paul Edward and Frances Meares Hinkle.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Gary Burghardt Gray.  Janice dedicated her life to music.  From teaching piano to directing music in church, Mrs. Gray was able to bring God’s people into His presence in worship.  This all began at Mt. Olive Baptist in College Park, GA where she served as the Music Director.  Mrs. Gray would then be led to First Baptist Duluth to serve as the Children’s Choir Coordinator.  Here Mrs. Gray would pioneer the Children’s Summer Music Workshop. She would finish her ministry at Dahlonega Baptist Church where she was a member.  She loved to sing in the choir and be involved in the hand bell ministry.  Janice also greatly loved her time in the T.E.L. Sunday School class.

Survivors include her daughter and son in law Sheryl and Garrett Hope Jr, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law Scott and Sherrie Gray, Dahlonega; grandchildren Garrett Gray and Kayla Gray. 

A Memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 3:30 PM at Dahlonega Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Christ, Music and children were central in Janice’s life.  She adored her time at the churches where she served and asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the DBC Music Ministry, and/or Sonshine Weekday Preschool Ministry.
