Lawrence Charles Sowers

Mr. Lawrence Charles Sowers, age 59, of Flowery Branch passed away October 13, 2017

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Flowery Branch. Rev. Chuck Nation will officiate. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2017 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.

Born on August 3, 1958 and raised in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Larry Dean Sowers and of Mary Elizabeth Owen Sowers. As a young boy Mr. Sowers was a boxer at the Boys Club of Atlanta. While at the Boys Club, he was on the same amateur boxing team as Evander Holyfield. Mr. Sowers was the 4th generation to attend Baptist Tabernacle in Atlanta. He was also a 4th generation brick layer. He studied at Georgia State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree.

Mr. Sowers was a member of First Baptist Church of Flowery Branch where he was a church deacon, a trustee of the church, a Wednesday night teacher of AWANA.

In addition to his father, Mr. Sowers is preceded in death by his brother, Eric Owen Sowers.

Mr. Sowers is survived by his wife, Luz M. Sowers of Flowery Branch; mother, Mary Sowers of Forest Park; step daughter, Marla Lear (Deron) of Buford; sisters, Sharon Jones (Jimmy) of Jonesboro, Gaye Smith (Michael) of Hoschton, Lauren Wigley (Andrew) of Cumming, Shelley Murray (David) of Newnan; grandchildren, Deron F. Lear, Chanel M. Lear, Malina P. Lear and a number of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to First Baptist Church of Flowery Branch Missions Ministry, 5106 Spring Street Flowery Branch, GA 30542.
