Laurence Kenneth Hirt

Obituary Date: Friday, October 6, 2017

Mr. Laurence Kenneth Hirt, known as Larry to his family and friends, age 71, of Gainesville, GA passed away October 6, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Kimberlee Robertson and her husband Mike, Flowery Branch; and son Kurtiss Hirt, Gainesville; step-daughters, Regina Turpin and Robin Allison, both of Gainesville; Grandchildren, Spencer Hyatt (Amanda), Lanie & Lexie Robertson, Madison & Ethan Hirt; Great Granddaughter Addie Hyatt.  Also surviving are his sisters Carol Geer and her husband Frank, Barbara Bantle and her husband David, Diane Carter; and brother, Douglas Hirt all of Michigan.  He is also survived by many extended family members and special friends.

He was born in Highland Park, Michigan on May 30, 1946 to the late Kenneth & Kathryn Hirt.  He was the oldest of 5 children.  As a child, his family moved often.  Growing up around the Great Lakes, he had a love of anything and everything involving water.  He also had a great love of horses and anything with a motor.  Larry greatly enjoyed teasing his sisters during their younger years, but during their adult years, they were incredibly close and supportive of each other.

If you knew him, you knew him as a loyal friend and a hard worker.  During his last days, he enjoyed working at Slack Auto Parts.  He greatly enjoyed his co-workers and the customers on his delivery route.  Larry was a story teller.  He had a keen sense of whit and could weave a story like no other.  He adored the Gulf Coast and the salty air.  In his earlier days, he greatly enjoyed fishing on the Gulf.  His family will remember him as someone who was so handy.  He was an amazing mechanic, could smoke any cut of meat to perfection and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends.  Our greatest joy is knowing that during the last few weeks of his life, he placed his trust in the hope of Jesus Christ.  We rejoice in knowing that we will see him again.

If you really knew him, you’d know that he was a simple man. His wishes were to not have a funeral or memorial service.  In his words, he didn’t want people to stand around crying over him, so we will honor his wishes and celebrate his life in our own way.  If you’d like to reach out to the family and share a special story or memory, they’d greatly appreciate that along with your prayers.
