Michael “Scuba” McLaughlin 67, of Helen GA passed away Friday, September 22, 2017. He has presided in Helen since 1981. Michael was born in Greenfield OH to the late Elizabeth and Douglas McLaughlin. He is survived by his brother Tony McLaughlin, sisters Lisa Schenider, Tara Allen, and aunt Diane Powell.
Michael was a community leader who started and was the editor of local Telegraph Newspaper in 1987. Later in 1991 he developed and was the producer of the Helen Entertainment Channel that broadcast in nine North GA counties. He also owned the Visitors Information Channel that broadcast in Boone, NC, Maggie Valley, NC, Cherokee, NC, Gatlinburg, TN, and Pigeon Forge, TN.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 12 until 1. Memorial services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donation be made in Michael’s memory to the Helen Art and Heritage Center c/o 25 Chattahoochee Strasse, Helen, GA 30545.
