J.W. Holbrook, age 92, of Cumming, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2017. He was a lifetime member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. J.W. was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He served as the first Commander of the American Legion of Forsyth County. He was a 1942 graduate of Cumming High School. J.W. retired from the United States Department of Agriculture (SCS) after 38 years. He later retired a second time after working for the City of Cumming in Planning and Zoning for 17 years, at the age of 83. He was one of the founders of the Sawnee Mountain Athletic Club. J.W. coached many youth and adult baseball and softball teams. While coaching many teams in the area, J.W. also played on many teams until age 75. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. He will be missed. J.W. is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Geneva Holbrook; and sisters, Vivian H. Boggs, Sara H. Long, and Betty H. Wofford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 1/2 years, Doris Poole Holbrook; children, Dennis, Larry and Teresa, Terry, Greg and Nancy Holbrook ;and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, October 5, 2017 in the chapel of Ingram Funeral Home at 4:00 pm with Rev. Ted Miller, Rev. Gerald Blackburn officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Cumming, GA.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, from 12p.m. until the hour of service.
