James Grady Higgins

James Grady Higgins, age 84, of Winder, GA passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. He was preceded in death by his son, Eddy Lamar Holbrook; daughter, Dwyna Christine Elinburg; parents, Jim and Edna R. Higgins; brother, Waymon Higgins; sisters, Nona Sue Payne, and Nell Gilleland; brothers-in-law, Rev. Charles Payne, and Hoyt Gilleland. Mr. Higgins is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Rosa Lee Bailey Higgins, Winder, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Terry Gower, Winder, GA; seven grandchildren, Keith Holbrook, Chad and Jackey Holbrook, Dana Malcolm, Brandy Gower, T. J. Gower, Kevin Elinburg, and Kaylee Elinburg; eight great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; sister and brother-in-law, Lona Bell and Kenneth Thompson, Lawrenceville, GA; sister-in-law, Lottie Ruth Higgins, Dahlonega, GA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Jessica, Hali, Kayla Cheek. Mr. Higgins was born March 12, 1933 in Duluth. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a graduate of Duluth High School. He was retired from Waste Management Company as a truck driver. He was a member of Peoples Baptist Church in Jefferson, GA and a member of Buford American Legion Post 127. Mr. Higgins loved to hunt and fish and do word search puzzles. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Gooch, Rev. Joel Shadburn, and Rev. Terry Hagood officiating. Interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth, GA with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. “The family would like to express their special thanks to N.E. GA Hospice for the wonderful care given to Grady and his family during his illness.”
