Mr. James “Jim” E. Curtis, age 91, of Flowery Branch passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Gateway Gardens Assisted Living, surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services will be 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2017 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home with interment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery. Rev. David Glover and Rev. Jose DaSilva will officiate. The family will receive friends 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
Mr. Curtis was born September 8, 1926 to the late George B. & Cloa Mahan Curtis in Carlinville, Illinois. He was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church. He served in The United States Navy in the Pacific Theater as a Visual Communications Officer during World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Curtis studied for the ministry at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, from there he prepared for the mission field in Oviedo, Florida and Fredonia, Wisconsin. In 1959 he, his wife and 3 children went by ship to the mission field in the Amazon Region of Brazil, where they served for 33 years. At retirement they made their home in Flowery Branch for the last 26 years.
Mr. Curtis is survived by Darlene Curtis, his wife of 69 years; children, Jim & Elaine Curtis, Jeanna & Larry Knowels, Becky & Jim Loewen and George & Robin Curtis; 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
