Robert Van Stanford

Robert Van Stanford, 87, of Lilburn, GA passed away peacefully on September 11, 2017.  Mr. Stanford was born in Atlanta, GA, the eldest of 4, to William and Celeste Stanford. He grew up in Atlanta, graduating as valedictorian from Avondale High School. After spending 4 years in the United States Navy, Mr. Stanford completed an Electrical Engineering degree at Georgia Tech. He had a distinguished career in engineering at Southern Bell, Bell South, and AT&T.  Appointed by Governor Joe Harris in 1984, he served with distinction as a member of the State of Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board, Low Voltage Division.

Married to the late Martha Stanford for 55 years, they were the parents of 4 children; Rachelle Guthrie of Tamarac, FL ( spouse Fred),  Robert Van Stanford, Jr. of Tamarac, FL, Cindy Karsten of Lawrenceville, GA (spouse Tom), and Terri Schroedermeier of Braselton, GA (spouse Robin). Mr. Stanford is also survived by his brother, Wallace Stanford of Lawrenceville, GA, (spouse Lois) along with 4 grandchildren: Jodi Kinmon of Wellington, FL, Amy Guthrie of Mexico City, MX ( spouse Carlos ), Michelle Karsten of Atlanta, GA and Michael Karsten of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren; Taylor, Savannah, and Nicholas, along with multiple nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stanford was a treasured father, grandfather and friend to many. A very special man indeed. He will be missed more than words can say. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Hoschton United Methodist Church, Hoschton, GA. Following the service, family and friends will gather over ice cream, his favorite, to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hoschton United Methodist Church in memory of Robert Van Stanford.
