Rev. Grover Garrison Murphy, age 82 of Alto, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at his residence.
Born in Hall County, Georgia on April 27, 1935, he was a son of the late Grover William, Sr. and Susie Garrison Murphy. Rev. Murphy owned and operated Cornelia Barber Shop for 40 years and was also formerly employed with Chicopee Manufacturing. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and was an ordained Baptist minister. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, yard work, and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Swayne Murphy.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jane Echols Murphy of Alto; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Gail Murphy of Alto and Jimmy and Diane Murphy of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Dustin Murphy, Stacy Kidd, Stephanie Swimms, Amanda Gable, Ashley Cash and Matthew Cash; seven great grandchildren; brother, Vernon Murphy of Cornelia; sisters, Pat Savage of Cornelia and Faye Loudermilk of Mt. Airy; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 pm, Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Jacob Armour and Rev. Charles Abernathy officiating. Interment will follow in Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5-8:30 pm on Wednesday and from 1 pm until the service hour on Thursday at the funeral home.
