Ruth Kanaday White

Mrs. Ruth Kanaday White, age 88, of Murrayville, GA passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017 in her home.  Ruth was born in Lumpkin County to the late Joseph H. Kanaday and Hester Clark Kanaday.  She retired from the Lumpkin County School system where she served the county for more than 30 years.  She started as a teacher at Grace Elementary School in Lumpkin County and was one of the very first paraprofessionals in Lumpkin County as well.  She spent her last years before retirement as the secretary of Long Branch Elementary School.  Ruth was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church #2 and Mt. Zion Good Will Circle.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband, Travis “Bill” White; her sister, Frankie Stringer; and her brothers Joe Kanaday Jr. and Jack Kanaday.  She is survived by her son Jack (Debbie) White of Murrayville and her daughter Karen (Kenneth) Wigley of Dahlonega.  She is also survived by a sister, Francis (Vaughan) Chastain; a sister-in-law, Connie Kanaday; and a brother-in-law, Paul Stringer; 5 grandchildren, Shelley (Keith) Wilson of Murrayville; Jonathan (Jennifer) White of Murrayville; Whitney (Jason) Dockery of Clevelend; Randall (April) Chambers of Murrayville; and Lacey (Adam) Johnson of Dahlonega. Thirteen great grandchildren, or as Ruth called them “the little greats,” also survive along with a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.  Family will receive friends on Friday, September 15, 2017 from 2pm to 8pm.  Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 2pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church #2.  Interment will follow in church cemetery.  Rev. Stephen Gerrells and Rev. Kyle Savage will officiate.  Flowers will be accepted however in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Mt.
