Thomas “Tommy” Irvin

Thomas T. “Tommy” Irvin, age 88, of Mount Airy, Georgia passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017.

Mr. Irvin was born on July 14, 1929 in Lula, Georgia to the late Clinton and Gladys Hogan Irvin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Frady Irvin; brother, Curtis Irvin; sisters, Brenda Smith, Shirley Worley, and Karen Gilstrap. Mr. Irvin was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and was Deacon Emeritus. He served as Commissioner of Agriculture for the State of Georgia for 42 years. Mr. Irvin was Grandmaster of Masons in Georgia (1993 – 1994). Orient of Georgia Valley of Atlanta Scottish Rite 33° Mason. He also was a Georgia Grand York Rite Mason. He was a member of mother lodge, Mount Airy 141 F & AM, Mount Airy, Georgia since 1953. Tommy was known as “Paw-Paw” to 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Londa and Buddy Sprinkle, of Mount Airy, GA; Lisa and Bill Collier, of Mount Airy, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Susan Irvin, of Toccoa, GA; Johnny and Ann Irvin, of Tallulah Falls, GA; David and Elaine Irvin, of Clarkesville, GA; grandchildren, Tara Pridgen, Chris Irvin, Rob Irvin, Elizabeth Irvin Barnwell, Melanie Silvestri, Clint Irvin, Stephanie Irvin, Brian Irvin, Meridee Wilson, Jarad Wilson, Nathan Wilson, Ryan Collier, April LaHayne, Nolan Collier; great-grandchildren, Ruthanna, Ford, Henry, Harrison, Asher, Avric, Adley, Colin, Keira, Scarlet, William; brothers and sisters, Carroll Irvin, Ernest Rogers, Linda Allen, Gail Rylee, Dennis Rogers, Delease Carlan, Roy Rogers, and Jerry Rogers.

The family wishes to thank the devoted caregivers, Kellie Stephens, Terry Offman, and Lisa Crumley.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:30 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Antioch Baptist Church, (2175 Antioch Church Rd, Mt Airy, GA 30563) with Rev. Chris Webb and Rev. David Harbin officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens.   

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice or the Georgia Masonic Home for Children, 811 Mulberry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201-6779.
