William Byron “Bill” Phillips

William Byron “Bill” Phillips, age 90, of Hartwell, GA formerly of Buford, GA passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017. He was preceded in death by his son, Tony Phillips. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Eris McGee Phillips; children, Tim and Annette Phillips, Hartwell, GA, Terry and Holly Phillips, Hartwell, GA, Joe and Rena Phillips, Buford, GA, and Robert D. and Jenny Phillips, Flowery Branch, GA; grandchildren, Gary and Aimee Phillips, Scott and Anita Phillips, April and Jeff Huber, Laura and Seth Maxwell, Erin Phillips, Josh Phillips, Molly Phillips, Nolan Phillips, and Elijah Phillips; ten great grandchildren; aunt, Lena Mauldin, Buford, GA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Phillips was born April 28, 1927 in Buford, GA. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines, at 16 years old and was drafted in the U. S. Army twice. He was a 1944 graduate of Lawrenceville High School. He was a Mason member of the Lawrenceville Lodge no 131 F.&A.M. and Gwinnett Daylight Lodge no 744 F.&A.M. He was a member of many other Masonic Groups and also a Shriner and member of Yaarah Temple. He was a longtime member and Deacon of Duncan Creek Congregational Church in Buford and a dual member of Liberty Congregational Church in Dewy Rose, GA. He retired as superintendent from General Motors Assembly Plant in the paint department after 33 years of service. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Duncan Creek Congregational Church with Pastor Dr. James Dee Dillin officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan Creek Congregational Church Cemetery in Buford with a Masonic graveside service. The grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. “He was their favorite Popa”. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford.
