Dennis C. Thayer

Dennis C. Thayer of Gainesville, GA passed away September 8th, 2017 at age 73 from metastatic cancer. Born in Orange, California, he spent his childhood moving across the country from Alaska to Tennessee, because of his father's military service. 

At age 21, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, and served in Thailand during the Vietnam War as a military intelligence and communications analyst. He later worked in South America and Europe as an international business consultant for Alexander Proudfoot. He went on to become the Vice President for Zollner Pistons in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He was married for 27 years to Sharon Thayer, with whom he had two children.

After retiring, he relocated to Gainesville, GA in order to be closer to his family and care for his elderly parents. In 2012 he suffered a massive stroke that resulted in paralysis. In the face of significant challenges, he remained cheerful and optimistic. He maintained his positive outlook and keen wit for the remainder of his life.

Dennis is survived by 2 children, Michelle (John) Thayer and Matthew (Monica) Thayer; 3 grandchildren, Sierra Thayer, Lilyana Thayer, and Hanna Thayer; 5 siblings, David (Patricia) Thayer, Thomas (Nancy) Thayer, Christine (Jerry) Benoit, Carol (Michael) Barnett, and Joseph (Rachel) Thayer; and other relatives and friends. 

Services will be held at Little-Davenport Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 13th. Family and friends will be received from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the American Cancer Society in his name.
