Marcia Ann Smith McDuffie, 72, of Oakwood, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017. She was surrounded by her loving family.
A Memorial Service will be held at Blackshear Place Baptist Church 3428 Atlanta Highway, Flowery Branch, Georgia on Saturday, September 16 at 2:00 p.m. The family will also receive friends immediately following the memorial service at 3:00pm. Burial will follow at a later date in Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Marcia was born July 24, 1945 in Brunswick, Georgia to Asa and Mildred Smith. She was raised in Fitzgerald, GA where she graduated from Fitzgerald High School. She attended The Women’s College of Georgia in Milledgeville where she earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Piano Performance. She married Clifton Steed McDuffie of Fitzgerald, GA on June 25, 1967.
Clifton and Marcia lived in Fitzgerald, GA, Albany, GA, Waycross, GA, Gainesville, GA, and Oakwood, GA. She joyfully served her family as a stay at home mom and later as a stay at home grandmother. Her professional career included service in the educational system as teacher, substitute teacher, director of the afterschool program at Riverbend School, and most recently as a para-professional at Friendship Elementary School. She also taught piano lessons.
At the age of 12, Marcia gave her heart and life to Jesus Christ and was baptized. She was always a faithful servant at church. At First Baptist Church of Gainesville, GA, she faithfully served in children's music ministry and children's ministry. She also played the piano for the Angler's Sunday School Class. Since 2004, Marcia has been a faithful member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church where she served in the Kidz Praise Music Ministry and other children's ministries.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Clifton McDuffie, and their 3 children: Son Mark McDuffie and his wife Julie of Buford, GA, Daughter Melissa McDuffie Giles and her husband Doug of Buford, GA, and Son Marshall McDuffie of Braselton, GA; Grandchildren Georgia and Grant McDuffie and Annie Cobb; her brother Gary Smith and his wife Sue Smith of Fitzgerald, GA. Other survivors include: Nephew Andy Smith and his wife Maresa and their children Carson and Caroline of Bishop, GA, Niece Laurel Gamage and her husband Jason and their children Wes and Jack of Tifton, GA, Nephew John David Smith and his fiancé Julie Ranstadler of Fitzgerald, GA.
Flowers may be sent to Little & Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The See Vision Funds at Blackshear Place Baptist Church.
