Wynell Simmons, 75, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday September 6, 2017 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born January 19, 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Royce and Opal Sweatman, she lived most of her life in Dawson County. Wynell was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, travel and caring for her family. She was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her daughters, Tammy Loraine Simmons and Kemberly Diane Hallum, and a sister, Vera Williams.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Cecil H. “Skeeter” Simmons, Dawsonville; children, Cathy and Raymond Duncan, Dawsonville; Darlene and Tommy “Buckwheat” Davis, Dahlonega, David Simmons, Dawsonville; 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; sisters, Joyce Hilton, Morrow, GA, Carolyn Hardin, Dallas, GA, Carolyn Sweatman, Charlotte, NC; brothers and sisters in law, Wayne and Marilyn Sweatman, Douglasville, GA, Royce and Carolyn Sweatman, Harrison, AR; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday September 8, 2017 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Phillip Wehunt and Rev. Tim Bennett will officiate. Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
