Mr. Henry Monroe Cook, 74, of Lula, passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, following a courageous, 16-year battle with cancer.
Henry was born on Feb. 12, 1943, in Cumming, and grew up in nearby Suwanee. He graduated from North Gwinnett High School and the University of Georgia, where he received a degree in business management. After marrying, he moved to Lula, where he lived most of his life. He was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, and a former member of Lula Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and minister of music for many years.
Henry was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved God, his family, his friends, music, and sports. He was dependable and generous and always willing to share his time and talents. After retiring from Industrial Pipe and Supply in 2005, the highlights of his life were spending time with his grandchildren, going to church, and playing golf every week with his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janice Miller Cook, Lula; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Mike Mihalick, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, John and Sharon Cook, Buford; grandchildren, Carly and Jake Mihalick and Norah Cook; sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Harold Manning, Suwanee; brother, Horace Cook, Buford; sister-in-law and husband, Shirley and Phil Hudgins, Gainesville; brother-in-law and wife, Bobby and Gale Miller, Lula; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rupert and Lula Williams Cook; his parents-in-law, Henry and Fannie Miller, Lula; and his sister-in-law, Judy Cook, Buford.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, at Blackshear Place Baptist Church, Gainesville, with the Rev. Jeff Crook and Ben Pethel officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Memorial Park Road from 3-5 and 6-8 Wednesday, Aug. 30.
Flowers are welcome, but memorial donations may be made to the Blackshear Place Baptist Church building fund, to the Gideons, or to the hospice program at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
