Jay Alan Wright, died Friday, August 25th after an extended illness.
Jay Alan Wright, the son of Florence King Wright and Dr. AD Wright, Jr., was born in Augusta, GA on June 3, 1953. The family moved back to Gainesville, GA in 1960. Jay was in the graduating class of 1971 at Gainesville High School. He was a Co-Captain of the Red Elephant football team and in 1969 played with the team winning the North Georgia Championship. Later in life, Jay ran his own business as a professional painter. He was known for being a perfectionist in his work. Jay was a committed Christian and attended New Holland Congregational Holiness Church where he was a faithful and active member. He was also involved in Evangelistic work with his brother-in-law, Evangelist Milton Martin, Jr., traveling and helping with tent crusades and revivals.
He was known to help widows and share an encouraging word to hurting people. His life was a testimony of God’s redeeming power and love.
After the passing of his dad, Dr. AD Wright, Jr., in 2010, Jay was faithful to show honor and love to his parents by overseeing his mother’s care and maintaining their home and yard until he was no longer physically able.
Jay loved his family, church family and his pets. He was an avid fisherman and especially enjoyed salt water fishing.
Jay is preceded in death by his dad, Dr. AD Wright, Jr.
Surviving Jay are his mother, Florence Wright; brother, Asbury Dukes Wright, III (Berry) and his wife Jule Hunnicut Wright; sister, Janice Lynn Wright Martin and her husband Rev. Milton Martin, Jr.; nephews who survive are John Asbury Wright, William Holden Wright, Milton Jay Marcus Martin (JJ) and niece, Malinda Nellie Martin.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Sunday, from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the funeral following at 3:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home North Riverside Chapel 989 Riverside Dr. Gainesville, GA 30501. Rev. David Lewis and Rev. Milton Martin, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Alta Vista Cemetery.
