Nellie Frances Pitts Sumpter

Nellie Frances Pitts Sumpter, age 83 of Demorest, Georgia passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville following an extended illness.

Born in Toccoa, Georgia on September 08, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Carl & Ruth Thacker Moore. Mrs. Sumpter retired after many years of service in the Housekeeping Department of Habersham Medical Center. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, & great-great-grandmother. Mrs. Sumpter was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Johnny Pitts & Roy Sumpter, daughter, Kathy Maye, brothers, S.P. Moore & Lonnie Moore, sisters, Ruby Payne & Willie Mae Stancil.

Survivors include her children & their spouses, Glenn & Ruth Pitts, Faye & Guy Miller, Ann & Johnny York, Steve Sumpter, all of Toccoa, GA; Terry Sumpter, Linda Frady, both of Demorest, GA; Tony & Cheryl Sumpter of Clarkesville, GA; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and she was blessed with many many other great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2017 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home with Bishop Kevin Magness officiating. Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 4 p.m. & 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
