Mildred “Mickie” Bowen Kennedy

Obituary Date: Wednesday, August 9, 2017

Mrs. Mildred “Mickie” Bowen Kennedy passed away August 9, 2017 after a brief illness.  She was born January 29, 1921 in Bulloch County Georgia to the late Rowe Dolphus and Ora DeLoach Bowen.  She graduated from Register High School, Register, Georgia in 1938.  She attended Georgia Teachers College, now Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia later entering the Atlanta School of Commerce Business School in Atlanta, Georgia.  Prior to her marriage to Fred M. Kennedy, Jr. in 1942 during WWII, she worked in the payroll section of the Savannah Machine and Foundry Shipbuilding Division.

A homemaker all her married life, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She and her husband were married 65 years until his death in 2008.  They enjoyed a wonderful life together with family and friends, and loved to travel with their Airstream travel trailer all over the United States and Canada.  They made several trips abroad and were always thankful for their good health and the many blessings they received from our Lord above.  In the years after her husband’s passing she was able to see her three great-children born and cherished the time she could spend with them and the rest of her family.  She was a member of Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church and will always be remembered as a kind, sweet, southern lady with a warm smile and loving heart.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister and their spouses.  Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law Berton O’Neal “Neal” and Betty Hodges Bowen, Register, GA.  Also surviving are her son James “Jim” Caruthers Kennedy, II, and daughter-in-law Janet “Jan” Booth Kennedy, Gainesville, GA; granddaughters Erin Leigh Kennedy Biehler and husband Mark Andrew Biehler, Dunwoody, GA;  Colleen Ann Kennedy Cumback and husband Ryan Patrick Cumback, Charleston, SC; and three great-grandchildren Andrew James Biehler, Kennedy Carlton Biehler, and Madeline Ann Cumback.  Also surviving are a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:00 pm in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Dr. Tom Smiley will officiate.  The family will receive friends on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm, prior to the graveside service, at the funeral home.
