Sgt. Eli Saul Melendez Novas, 27, of Gillsville passed away July 31, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 4, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church. Jose Luis Hernandez will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. there will be a military service.

Born on June 27, 1990 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, he was the son of Ismael Melendez Melendez and Magaly Novas. Sgt. Melendez Novas was in the National Guard.

Melendez Novas is survived by mother, Magaly Novas of Baton Rouge, LA; sister, Annette Melendez-Santiago of Tampa, FL; brothers, Ismael Melendez-Santiago of Orlando, FL, Luis Angel Melendez Novas of Gillsville, Angel Luis Melendez Novas of Boston, MA, Henrry De Jesus Novas of Baton Rouge, LA; sister, Melanie J. Novas of Baton Rouge, LA; adopted father, Moises Lucero of Gillsville; adopted mother, Maria Lopez Calderon; brothers, Phillip Lucero and Sherman Lucero.
