James Andrew Cody, age 85, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017.
Mr. Cody was born on November 13, 1931, in Clarkesville, Georgia, to the late John A. and Ellene Gastley Cody. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Andrew Cody, Jr. Mr. Cody retired as a supervisor from Clarkesville Mills with over 40 years of service. He was the oldest member of Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge #141 F. & A.M. where he recently received his 50 year award. James was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church. He was also a member of Walk-in Sunday School Class and Hazel Creek Brotherhood.
Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Shelby Jean Byers Cody, Mt. Airy; daughter, Caren Cody Hudson, Johns Creek; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Mitchell Bennett, Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, John Anthony “Tony” and Janis Cody, Mt. Airy; sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn Cody Marlowe and Jim, Mt. Airy; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Betty Cody, Lake City, FL and Doug and Sue Cody, Kennesaw; grandchildren: Jessica Beach, Christina Cody, Cody Hudson, Shelby Cody, MacKenzie Hudson, and Chassatie Cody; great-grandchildren: Isaac, Ian, Aaron James, Brantlee, and Camden; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Hazel Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Trent Smith and Rev. Billy Burrell officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
