Mildred “Millie” Louise (Zahniser) Evans, 68, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017, in her Gainesville, GA residence following a long illness. She died on her father’s birthday.
Mildred Zahniser was born January 15, 1949, in Montrose, CO, the second child of her parents, Ivan Webb and Miriam Geneva Manker Zahniser. She was raised on the family farm in Montrose County and was active in 4-H. A 50-year graduate of Montrose High School, Class of 1967, Mildred became a licensed cosmetologist and practiced as a beauty operator for 12 years in Montrose, Colorado Springs, and Denver, CO.
“Millie,” as she preferred to be called, married Richard A. Evans in Colorado Springs, CO on September 20, 1975. She was a minister’s wife and mother of Emily Ruth, born in Manchester, IA on June 9, 1980. In addition to doing a lot of church volunteer work, Millie provided daycare in her home and worked for a private duty agency providing personal services for senior clients. She was known for the “love language” of her cooking, baking, and handwork—sewing, knitting, crocheting,and especially quilting, her favorite pastime. She was a loyal and loving wife to Richard, serving with him in the Christian ministry in Manchester, IA; Arlington, MN; Colorado Springs, CO; Delray Beach, FL; and Gainesville, GA. A Hall County resident since 2004, Millie was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church and was involved in the program of spiritual life at Lanier Village Estates.
She is survived by her husband of almost 42 years, Richard, of Gainesville; her daughter, Emily (Paul) Grady of Maryville, TN; her three grandchildren, Joshua, Leah and Hannah Grady of Maryville, TN; her sister, Geneva (Wayne) Lechner of Delta, CO; her three brothers, Richard Zahniser of Westminster, CO, James (Kim) Zahniser of Montrose, CO, and Kenneth (Deana) Zahniser of Montrose, CO; plus numerous nephews, nieces and their children.
Services for Millie Evans will be on Monday, July 24, 2017, at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel in Gainesville: visitation from 5:30–7:30 p.m. and funeral service at 7:30. Burial will be at a family plot in Grandview Cemetery, Montrose, CO, preceded by visitation and services at the Crippen Funeral Home in Montrose.
