Mrs. Mary Virginia Gowder Sloan, 88, of Gainesville passed away Friday, July 21, 2017.
Mrs. Sloan was preceded in death by her father and mother, George and Esther Gowder and her brother, Dr. George Gowder, Sr.
Mrs. Sloan was a loving Christian mother and grandmother and is survived by her daughter, Mary Martin and her husband Jackie; her son, Jim Sloan and his wife Kim; her six grandchildren, John Martin, James Martin, Mary Beth Cole, Nicole Sloan, David Sloan; and Emily Sloan; seven great grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sloan was an elementary school teacher and taught second graders in the Gainesville City School for her entire career. She touched the lives of many children and families throughout her lifetime.
She was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church in Flowery Branch, Georgia. She trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young girl at Calvary Baptist Church in Gainesville, Georgia. She has faithfully loved and served the Lord throughout her lifetime and is a model of the Proverbs 31 woman.
The celebration of her life and home going will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017 in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. James Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday from 4-6 p.m.
