Mr. Richard Danforth “Dick” Hinkley, age 82, of Cumming, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017 after a brief battle with cancer. Dick was born in Greenfield, MA on May 17, 1935, graduated from Greenfield High School, class of 1953, and the University of Massachusetts in 1957 with a B. S. in Forestry. He married his home town sweetheart, Alice Shippey Hinkley and served in the United States Army before moving on to a 10-year career with the United States Forest Service. Dick became interested in flying airplanes, became a licensed pilot and joined Delta Airlines in 1966. He retired after 30 years of service flying for Delta.
Dick first and foremost loved everything about motorcycles and enjoyed many trips with friends and family. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, gardening and his pets.
Dick is predeceased by his parents, Lawrence Hinkley and Mabel Defraine Hinkley; sons, James W. Hinkley and David A. Hinkley; sister, Marilyn Krupp.
Survivors include his wife, Alice S. Hinkley; daughter, Mary Gail Britt (Mike); son, Jeffrey A. Hinkley; grandsons, David Hinkley and Devin Britt; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 24th at 2:00 pm at Ingram Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Monday from 1:00 pm until hour of the service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Dick’s Memory to The American Cancer Society.
