David Francis Seng

Obituary Date: Thursday, July 13, 2017

David Francis Seng of Dahlonega, GA, passed away at his home in the early morning of Thursday, July 13, 2017, after suffering from pulmonary fibrosis for three years.  He leaves behind his beloved wife of 50 years, Erin McCabe Seng, daughter Shannon Seng Van Horn, sons Andrew and Matthew, daughter-in-law Celeste Hannah, son-in-law Jason Van Horn, and six wonderful grandchildren.  He is survived by his sister Rosemary Seng Eppig and his sister-in-law Patricia Seng.

For David, his marriage, Catholic faith, children, grandchildren, and extended family were foremost and inseparable in his heart and mind; he was always concerned with providing unconditional loving support to them in any way that he could.  David felt called by his faith to contribute generously to his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame, having endowed a global educational and economic program. He strongly believed market-based principles could improve the wellbeing of families and communities in keeping with Catholic values.  Throughout his career and in retirement, David served on the Boards of numerous non-profit and church organizations.  As a parishioner, he has been a choir member, a Eucharistic minister, and was involved in other church programs such as Engaged Encounter and Marriage Encounter. David graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1963 with a Bachelors of Business Administration after which he served as Lieutenant (JG) in the U.S. Navy.  He graduated from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management with a Masters of Business Administration in 1969. David spent his entire career in the investment management business, and it was a position with C&S Bank that brought his family to Atlanta, GA in 1971.  After positions with several firms, he took the opportunity to join Montag & Caldwell as a portfolio manager and shareholder in 1985, and he retired from M&C as Chief Operating Officer & EVP in 1998.

David will be missed for his warmth and love, his good advice, and his unwavering support of those he loved.  While he claimed to be often wrong but seldom in doubt, those who knew and loved him feel differently. We know that he is united in heaven with his father, Wendelin C., his mother, Rose, and his brothers, John and Wendelin, and that he is at peace.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church on Monday, July 17th, at 10:30AM with visitation beginning at 10:00AM. Further information may be found at www.dahlonegafuneralhome.com.
