Winburn Lee Martin

Mr. Winburn Lee Martin, 82, of Gainesville, went home to his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Bell Minor Nursing Home following an extended illness.

          Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017 in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Mark Stroud and Rev. Benji Boone will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Mr. Martin was born on June 22, 1935 in Gainesville, GA to the late John E. and Myra Brooks Martin. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Wahoo Baptist Church. He was also an ordained deacon for a number years at Faith Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin is preceded in death by his daughters, Kimberly Martin and Lydia Tucker.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary L. Philyaw Martin of Gainesville; daughter and son in law, Wanda (Charles) Dowdy of Coffeen, IL.; daughter, Donna Gee of Gillsville; son and daughter in law, Todd (Rhonda) Martin of Gillsville; son in law, Rick Tucker (Pam) of Gainesville; grandchildren, Jada Boone, Nicole Mooney, Cody Tucker, Courtney Dowdy, Cory Tucker, Kalen Carlyle, Peyton Martin; 12 great grandchildren; sisters, Inez Allison, Hazel Martin, Carolyn Martin, Gaynelle Wheeler; brother, Dean Martin.

The family would like to extend thanks to all the staff at Bell Minor, who provided excellent care for Papa, from clerical workers, food staff, housekeeping, CNA’s and Nurses, each staff member grew to love Papa as family.
