Edwin Eugene Terry

Edwin Eugene Terry, age 81, of Suwanee, GA passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 49-1/2 years, Donnis Bagwell Terry; parents, Howard and Mary Irene “Renia” Garner Terry; brothers, Thurmon Hampton Terry, Herman Clifford Terry, Raymond Edward Terry, and Charles Alvin Terry; and sister Thelma Bertress Terry Entrekin McDaniel.  He is survived by his daughters, Carol A. Terry, MD, and Tina Miller, Suwanee, GA; Brenda and Bill Petty, Homer, GA; and April and Mike Gann, Buford, GA; grandchildren, Helen Elizabeth Petty, Bryan Robert Petty, Abby Michaela Gann, and Jesse Flynn Gann; sister, Bernice Terry Puckett; and brother-in-law, Jerry Lynn, Sugar Hill; and multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Mr. Terry was born on April 29, 1936, in Buford, GA.  He was a veteran of the Korean War, and retired from the DeKalb County Department of Traffic Engineering after 37.8 years of service.  He enjoyed watching sporting events and gardening.  Some of his most cherished memories involved traveling by motor coach with his wife to various historic sights and national landmarks.  Edwin and Donnis helped care for Abby and Jesse until they were of school age.  “Papa” was a special buddy to his grandson Jesse and a father figure to Ismael and Sylvia Vazquez.  As a lifelong Suwanee resident who had an interest in community affairs and who quietly assisted those in need, his presence will be missed.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Patchin officiating.  The eulogy will be given by Dr. Carol A. Terry.  Interment will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth, GA.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, July 8, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Make-A-Wish Georgia (http://georgia.wish.org/) or the Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (http://www.georgiaspca.org/) in memory of Edwin Terry.
