Charlie is preceded in death by his mother, aunts, and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 69 years Virginia Elizabeth (Hughes) Cofield; three children Donna Sexton [Cleve], Doug Cofield [Marianne], and Dedria Harris [Bill]; five grandchildren Kristi Praet, Melanie Cofield, Jason Pierce, Katie Wetherington, and Elizabeth Harris; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Charlie was born in 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia. He served in the 8th Air Force as flight engineer on a B-17 bomber during World War II, made a career as machinist and salesman, and spent countless hours honing his tools, skills, and imagination in his metal and wood crafting shop. If he wasn’t building something with his hands, he was busy gardening or golfing. He loved the Lord, family, and anything resembling dessert. He always had a kind word and a laugh to share, enjoyed good company, and encouraged folks to stay or come back soon.
