Simon was born on October 23, 1931 in Brunswick, Georgia to the late Wade Hampton Overstreet and Ruth Tyre Smith. Simon graduated from the Georgia Academy for the Blind. Simon Overstreet was born blind but he never let his lack of vision hinder what he wanted in life. He always said his blindness was not a disability it was an inconvenience. Simon loved the Lord and loved singing for him, it is amazing to know that the first face he saw was Jesus when he reached his heavenly home. He had a God given talent for music, he had a beautiful voice to our heavenly Father. He played both Piano and Organ. He continued to sing and play music for revivals, churches, weddings and even funerals. His trade was tuning pianos and he worked with Martin Piano Company until his retirement. He came to Oakwood on April 01, 1963 for a revival at First Baptist Church Oakwood, this is where he met the love of his life Lucy Davis. They married in December 1963. Simon traveled with many pastors singing at revivals. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Fannie Lou Overstreet, brothers, John Overstreet, Gerald Overstreet, and sister, Shirley Overstreet.
