Cecil Gober, age 89, of Sugar Hill, GA passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ora Roach Gober; granddaughter, Kelley Canady; sister, Ruby Ellsworth; and brother, William “Scrap” Gober. He is survived by his wife of 29.5 years, Gay Gober, Sugar Hill, GA; children, Connie and Henry McDaniel, Jefferson, GA, Jerry Gober, Buford, GA; stepsons, Corban and Jennifer Cofer, Suwanee, GA, and Randy Cofer, Oakwood, GA; grandchildren, Stacey and Tonya Ramey, Cleveland, GA, Janie and Kevin Ritcheson, Buford, GA, Lindsay and Jody Davis, Sugar Hill, GA, Tommy Gober, Buford, GA, Joshua Cofer and, Jessie Cofer; eight great grandchildren; brother, J.E. and Elizabeth Gober, Buford, GA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Gober was born April 14, 1928 in Sugar Hill, GA. He was a 1947 graduate of Sugar Hill High School. He was retired from General Motors Assembly Plant with 30 years of service, and was a member of U A W Local No 10. He served on the Gwinnett County Public School Board from 1964 to 1986, where he held the Gwinnett County Public School Board Chairperson 7 times and past president of GA School Board Association for 1983. He was a Varsity Letterman in basketball for 4 years and was a high school referee from 1953 to 1964. He was the president of Gwinnett County Farm Bureau for 14 years, a successful businessman and farmer from 1967 to 2000, and founder of the North Gwinnett Foundation in 2000. He was the treasurer at Sugar Hill Baptist Church for 25 years. He has the Cecil Gober Historical Book Collection of 2001. He was a Mason and a member of the Buford Masonic Lodge #292 F&AM where he received his 60 years pin. He was a member of Shadowbrook Baptist Church in Suwanee, GA.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Linkous officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
