Larry Perkins

Larry Perkins, age 73, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully at home on June 14, 2017. 

Mr. Perkins was born in Zebulon, Georgia to the late Ruby and Elijah Perkins. He earned a degree in engineering from Georgia Tech through the co-op work-study program with Dundee Mills and received an MBA from the University of Georgia. It was at UGA where he met the love of his life, Carol Williamson, who he married on August 4, 1974. 

Mr. Perkins served in the US Navy as Lieutenant J.G. aboard the USS Saratoga during the Vietnam era.  As a civilian, Larry was an executive at Dundee Mills / Springs Industries. He was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and member of the Seekers Sunday School class. He lived a life of service and particularly enjoyed working with local missions, especially Promising Futures tutoring and Habitat for Humanity. His work positively impacted the lives of many.

Above all else, Larry was a family man. He is preceded in death by his sisters June Blalock, Myrla Caldwell, and Betty Sandefur. He is survived by his wife Carol; daughters and sons-in-law Ellen and Chris Sanders and Anna and Hunter Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law Barry and Kay Perkins and Reuben and Bettye Perkins; and sister Martha McCrary. His final years were enriched by his only grandchild, Caroline Brown, who was a special joy to him.

A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, June 25^th, 2017, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Gainesville. A visitation will be held immediately following the service in the banquet hall.
