Mrs. Jewell Doris Thomas, age 92, of Oakwood passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her residence.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home with interment following at Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Myles Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 19, 2017 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thomas was born June 11, 1925 to the late Levi Turner & Daisy Adeline Deaton in Flowery Branch. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Oakwood, Wisdom Circle, Daughters of the Nile and TuShLa (Ladies Shrine Group). Living most of her life in Doraville, she was retired from Eastman Kodak in Chamblee, where she had been a Film Processor. Mrs. Thomas was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; devoted friend, homemaker, and gardener; and a hard-worker. Mrs. Thomas was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John B. Thomas; and siblings, Ralph (Emily) Deaton, Dorothy (Cecil) Bowles, Leonard Deaton, R.C. Reed, Geraldine (Dean) Bell, and Winfred (Mary) Deaton.
Survivors include: daughter & son-in-law, Shelia & Charles Patten of Eatonton; daughter, Betty Hardin of Lawrenceville; son & daughter-in-law, John B. & Mary Thomas, Jr. of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren, Chris (Alison) Patten of Cumming, Ben (Freya) Thomas of Greensboro, NC, Katherine (Chuck) Kania of Columbus, GA, Kelly (Nelson) Pires of Hartford, CT and Joseph (Rebecca) Hardin of Decatur; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Reed of Oakwood; sister-in-law, Christine Deaton of Suwanee; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
