Grace Butler Young (1927-2017) passed away peacefully in Gainesville, June 4th. Grace was born in Chicago, the 4th child of Ernest and Ruby Butler. She graduated from Austin High School and attended Cornell College in Iowa. She was married to Thomas Menzies Young for 67 years, until his death in 2015.
Grace was the mother of five children, Cub Scout den leader, little league mom, and housewife until serving as Executive Secretary to an engineering firm in Atlanta. She also spent several years working for Social Security Administration. She was a devoted member of the Christian Science Church. After retirement, she and her husband moved to Gainesville, where they enjoyed the little things in life, like sitting on the front porch with their dog, Lucy. It is impossible to think of Grace, without remembering how close she was to her husband, Tom.
Grace is survived by her five children: Scott (Luciana), R.J. (Jing), Tommy (Susan), Cathy Siso (Nelson) and Bob (Jenny), twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and her dog, Lucy. She will be buried at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Canton, Georgia In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Leukemia Society in her name.
