Avien Derez Gober, age 23 of Gainesville, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. He was born on March 15, 1994 in Gainesville, GA, the son of Crystal K. Gober. He attended East Hall High School and graduated in 2012, where he was a member of the marching band, drum major, symphonic band, yearbook club, beta club and various other student activities. He graduated from Georgia State University in December of 2016 with a Bachelors degree majoring in Political Science.
Avien was a member of the Georgia State Student Center and Spotlight Programs Board. He achieved Director of the Student Center and Spotlight Programs. He also was the Vice President of Spotlight Programs. His most recent attribute was Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator at the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia. Avien was a lover of sports, food, reality TV and music.
Avien leaves behind to cherish his memories, loving mother, Crystal K. Gober of Cornelia; brother, PFC Avonte Gober of Honolulu, Hawaii; sister, Harper Monroe of the home; maternal grandparents, Irvin and Pamela Gober of Gainesville; aunts and uncles, Tamara Gober and Isaac Fontanez of Cornelia, Patrice and Marvin Bolton of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; cousins, Jamari Bolton, Nevaeh Bolton, Dominic Fontanez and Majesty Bolton; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral arrangements are scheduled for 4 pm, Sunday, June 11, 2017 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart funeral home with Rev. Greg Gober officiating. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 pm until the service hour on Sunday at the funeral home.
