Preston B. Thompson

Preston B. Thompson, age 90 of Demorest, Georgia formerly of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, June 06, 2017 following an extended illness.

Born in Tazewell County, West Virginia on April 17, 1927, he was a son of the late Greever & Sylvia Smith Thompson. Mr. Thompson proudly served his country in the United States Army, United States Navy, and finally retired with the United States Air Force as a Master Tech Sergeant with over 26 years of combined service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Grace White Thompson, son, David Thompson, brothers, Garland Thompson, Cloyd Thompson, and a sister, Janice Burton.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia & Steve Newsom of Demorest, GA; Preston Graylyn Thompson, Bruce Thompson, Darrell L. Thompson all of Fredericksburg, VA; brothers, Kenneth Thompson of Fredericksburg, VA; Ellwood Thompson of Bluefield, WV; sisters, Helen Williams of Longmont, CO; Ruby Mitchum of McDonald, PA; grandchildren, Jennifer & Lew Hallford of Demorest, GA; Steven & Katie Newsom of Jacksonville, FL; Devin Thompson of Fredericksburg, VA; great-grandchildren, Ayden & Addisyn Hallford of Demorest, GA; as well as several other relatives, & friends.

The family will receive friends at the McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, June 09, 2017.

Graveside services are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2017 from the Oak Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at Covenant Funeral Home of Fredericksburg on Monday, June 12, 2017.
