Ray I. Smith

Ray l. Smith, age 80 of Demorest, Georgia passed away on Monday, June 05, 2017.

Ray was born in Cleveland, Georgia on October 9, 1936. He was a son of the late Paul & Annie Rose Warwick Smith. Mr. Smith retired as a store manager with Pence Feed and Farm Supply in Clarkesville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Ray was a member of Fairfield Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Virrie Smith; granddaughter, Kathy Smith; great-great grandson, Eli Gunn; brother, John “J.H.” Smith; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl & Milton Banks and Pauline & Grady Wade; sister, Fannie London.

Survivors include his son, Tim Smith of Lakemont; daughters and sons-in-law, Anita & Richard Ferguson of Demorest, Rhonda & Gary Sutton of Clarkesville; daughter, Rita Holcomb of Demorest; grandchildren and spouses, Misty & John Erwin of Demorest, Wesley & Kristi Thomas of Demorest, Chrissy & John Dover, II of Clarkesville, Kelly & Doug Gunn of Demorest, Travis & Cindy Fortenberry of Demorest, Christina & Ted Dodd of Demorest, Stephanie & Jeremy Coker of Banks County, Ginny Thibeault of Demorest, Ryan Smith of Demorest, Kristin Smith of Baldwin; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Henry B. & Donna Smith of Demorest; sister-in-law, Mildred Smith of Demorest; brother-in-law, Albert London of Demorest

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 07, 2017 from the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin and Stewart with Rev. Scott Doster, Rev. Keith Allison, and Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4-8 pm on Tuesday.
