Reverend J.R. Savage

Obituary Date: Saturday, June 3, 2017

Rev. J.R. Savage, age 89, of Lula, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s residence surrounded by family on Saturday, June 3, 2017.   

Rev. Savage was born in Hall County to the late James Romie Savage Sr. and Harriett M. Ravan Savage. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruthlene Savage; brothers, Grady Savage, Cleborn Savage, John O Savage, and Odis Savage; and sisters, Milberry Foster, Mary Lee Buffington, and Jimmie Bowen.  Rev. Savage was a retired Baptist Minister, having pastored Buck Creek Baptist Church in North Carolina, Dukes Creek Baptist Church in Cleveland, and Straightway Baptist Church in Gainesville. He also sang in the gospel group, The Savage Family, with his wife and three daughters.  Rev. Savage served in the US Army and was a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. 

Survivors include daughter and son in law, Dianne and Wayne King, Lula; daughter, Shirley Bruce, Lula; daughter, Roma Reeves, Lula; grandchildren, Bradley Motes, Christopher and Cindy Border, Stephanie Gray, Ryan Reeves, and Jenna Reeves; great-grandchildren, Katy Motes, Emily Motes, Kaylee Border and fiancé Will Smith, Madison Gray, and Abbie Gray. 

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 PM Monday, June 5, 2017 from Holly Springs Baptist Church.  The Rev. Josh Chatham, Rev. Bud Pittman, and Rev. Larry Forrester. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.   

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 Sunday at the funeral home.
