Jessie Day Moss

Obituary Date: Monday, May 22, 2017

Jessie Day Moss, 98, passed away Monday, May 22, 2017 after a short illness.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Nettie Day; husband of 49 years, Paul J. Moss; son, Gary Moss; granddaughter, Leigh Moss; grandson, Scott Kirby; and several brothers and sisters.

Born in Forsyth County, GA, she graduated from Chestatee High School in 1938.  She worked at Bell Telephone Company prior to marrying her sailor boy, Paul.  During World War II, she worked as a driller/riveter at the Bell Bomber Plant, now Lockheed, from 1943-44.  "Jake", as she was later called and Paul raised their family, Donna, Gary and Mike, in Mobile, AL where they attended Navco Baptist Church.  In 1965, they moved to Alpharetta, GA, then to Lavonia, GA where they lived for several years.  Buying a farm in Cumming, Jake lived there several years after Paul's death.  From there she moved to Tribble Gap Corners Condo's where she resided for 16 years.  She enjoyed meeting friends at the clubhouse for bingo and dominos.  She was a member of Concord Baptist Church.  During this time, she joined the Atlanta Chapter of the "Rosie the Riveter" Club.  She was known as the "Official Rosie" of the Atlanta Chapter.  She rode in the Atlanta Veteran's Day Parade in 2014, Heritage Day in Peachtree City in 2015, and a "Rosie" social at Ft. Benning in 2015.  She was in a video interview at Kennesaw State University for the Museum of History and Holocaust Education.

In February, 2017, she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law.  While there, Bud spoiled her with his cornbread and veggie soup.  She was always the life of the party wherever she was and asked what her secret to longevity was, she answered "no smoking, no drinking, no running around, and waking up in the morning."  When asked how she was, she always answered, "same old, same old."  In addition to being known as Jake, Jessie was also known as Mama Jake, Mamma, Mother, Grandma, and friend.

She leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bud Cloud; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Donna Moss; daughter-in-law, Beth Moss; 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
